Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say early analysis show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
